Takedown
If something on this site is about you and you think it shouldn't be here, you can ask us to take it down. Every post has a "Request a takedown" link that starts the email for you. Or write to [email protected] with "Takedown notice" in the subject.
If a post is wrong or one-sided but doesn't need to come down, the Right of Reply and Corrections pages are usually quicker.
Urgent cases
Some things we deal with first and look into afterwards. If a post shows an intimate image of you, shows or identifies a child, or gives out a home address, or if you're in real danger because of it, tell us which post and put "Urgent" in the subject. You don't need to prove anything else to get it taken offline while we look. We aim to do that within 48 hours.
Please don't send us intimate images, not even to show us what you mean. A link to the post and a description are enough.
Everything else
A takedown changes the public record, so we need to see why it should happen. Please tell us:
- Which post, and exactly what you want removed: the whole thing, a certain photo or video, or particular words.
- Who you are, and how you're connected to it. If you're writing for someone else, show us that you're allowed to. Cover up anything we don't need to see on any ID or documents you send.
- Why it should come down, from the reasons below.
- Your evidence: the documents, original full-length recordings, links, dates or anything else that shows it.
- That what you've told us is true, to the best of your knowledge.
Reasons we'll take something down
- It's false, and you can show that it's false.
- It gives out private information that serves no public purpose, like a home address or a private phone number.
- It shows an intimate image of someone who didn't agree to it being shared, or it exposes a child.
- It's putting someone at real risk of harm.
- A court has ordered it, or there's a legal reason we have to. Send us the order.
- You own the copyright, we've used your work without permission, and our use isn't covered by the law.
Not liking a post isn't enough on its own, and neither is it being embarrassing. If you simply disagree with it, send a reply and we'll consider adding it to the post.
What happens next
We'll confirm we've got your notice within 2 working days, and aim to give you a decision within 10. We might ask for more evidence.
If we agree, we'll remove what you've asked for. A whole post is replaced with a short notice saying it was withdrawn and when, and that's listed on our Corrections page, without repeating what was removed. If we remove part of a post, we'll note it on the post.
If we don't agree, we'll tell you why. You can come back at any time with new evidence.
Your notice stays private. We don't publish it, and the public note won't say who asked. We keep a copy in case the decision is ever questioned.
None of this takes away any legal rights you have.
